A live orchestra accompanies the chaos in Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, an upcoming sci-fi third-person shooter. A new trailer (above), released Thursday by publisher THQ, shows off some of the game’s hot marine-on-orc action, which campaign lead Matthew Berger says is meant to feel like a film.

“Everybody who makes a game is really hoping in some ways that eventually they’re gonna be making movies that they can play,” Berger says in the video. “And Space Marine is very much an evolution of that.”

I played a few minutes of Space Marine at E3 this June, and though I didn’t get to experience many of its cinematic portions, the action is solid. You jump into the fray and hack apart crowds of enemies with both melee and ranged weapons, not unlike Gears of War.

The Relic Entertainment-developed Space Marine, scheduled for release Sept. 6 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, is based on the Warhammer 40k series of tabletop war games.
